Lives and works in Brussels

Karine Marenne is a visual artist and performer whose work explores images in the broadest sense of the term. Developing a performative practice, she often produces a photograph or video, or even an installation as a trace of this act.

Over the years, the performative act has become central to her work. By performance, she means a poetic/political act or action, a mise en image to better reveal the cracks in the system. In her practice, she uses the body to make an image, based on the misappropriation of codes and archetypes. Derision is often her weapon of choice. She deliberately uses stereotyped, falsely naïve imagery, inviting herself into an environment that is not her own. Disturbing reality, she creates an absurd shift and burlesque characters.

In 2006, Karine Marenne created “We Love ART”, in which the BOZAR palace is transformed into a fitness room, where artists, curators, art critics and guardians are invited to sweat for Art. From 2005 to 2008, she developed a long nomadic soap opera with “Caravan of Love”. From 2012 to 2017, the feather-duster-wielding artist is a self-proclaimed “Art Maid”, wandering around art fairs and institutions to build up her collection of collectors. From 2016 to 2018, “Artiste Couple” Karine Marenne performs the couple. Currently, “Apron Role”, which takes the following forms
as a voluntary *dis-effeuillage of donning 50 aprons.
