The Little Artists, a duo formed by John Cake and Darren Neave, treat the small world of contemporary art with British irreverence . For example, they play Pictionary with the great names of British art , exhibit Gavin Turk’s garbage cans, and make toilet paper roll cover dolls inspired by Grayson Perry’s dresses. But they are best known for their Lego brick reinterpretations of modern and contemporary works of art. By plundering the work and strategies of other artists in order to distill their own, the Little Artists question the place of the artist in a society submerged by image and advertising. The piece acquired by SPACE is one of their most accomplished works, in which they attack the portrait of Andy Warhol, whose influence they claim, considering that without him their work would have had no artistic value. In addition to the customization of a Lego figurine, they rediscover the essence of Warhol’s world with the repetition of the same motif: the 100-dollar bill. (Genaro Marcos)
