Trained at art schools in Reading (UK), Dijon (FR) and Perth (AU), French artist Antoine Renard lives and works in Berlin. There, he co-directs an art center, Center, with his partner, artist Clémence de la Tour du Pin. He also exhibits in numerous galleries and art centers in Germany, the United States and France, notably at Chez Valentin gallery in Paris in 2016.
His work is characterized by low-intensity research into biomechanics (exploration of the mechanical properties of living organisms). For him, science, engineering, biology and new media shape and transform our perception of how the world works. He is also interested in the relationship between spaces, bodies and images.
The sculptures w6xf8 Diesel lungs 1 and 2 belong to the ensemble created in situ for the exhibition I Spell It Nature as part of the Diesel Project Space cycle. Led by Xavier Mary and Noëmie Merca, this project takes place in a disused gas station between Seraing and Liège. In his exhibition, Antoine Renard combines his interests in “dark ecology”, “nature without nature” and problems of perception. He starts with salvaged objects, abandoned car and truck parts, and presents them as archaeological objects, reconstituted using wax casts.
