Sculptor, Bernard Walhin practices metal assembly, with a predilection for iron. In his work, characters and horses are in the same boat: bridled, cornered, they seem to be in a perpetual struggle with their own burdens. His creations are characterized by a skin-deep expressiveness and intense tension that materialize in a fragile equilibrium; the artist probes the depths of the soul in the tradition of Romanticism, Symbolism and Expressionism. By preserving a testimonial to his creation, SPACE pays tribute to this artist who died too young. The work acquired is a bronze cast in 2005 from a wax mold made at l’Académie des Beaux-Arts de Liège. (Alain De Clerck)
