Stéphane Gilot’s work revolves around three main themes: chromatic architectural interventions, Plans d’évasion (escape plans) and Mondes modèles (model worlds). The first axis involves the spatialization of paint, color and unusual architectural phenomena. These works are gestures that invade the exhibition space, suggesting a construction that extends beyond the frame. Works in the second axis are characterized by an installation practice that is both architectural and videographic. The third completes the previous axis, based on the notion of modeling. Bibliothèque rouille, produced as part of a series of large-format works on the theme of the library, is a precursor to the work developed in the first and second axes: the spatialization of painting and modeling are brought together in the two-dimensional representation of an architectural installation. The drawings are characterized by the superimposition of cut-outs (two to three layers). Each piece brings together several layers of graphic information. These drawings revisit a series of projects grouped together under the name Archologie, a term borrowed from architect Paolo Soleri, formed from a contraction of the words “architecture” and “ecology”.
