Freaksville Sex Wagon
2010
Drawings printed on transparent tarpaulin

In 2010, Liège-based artist Benjamin Schoos created Miam Monster Miam, a series of 25 works based on 1950s iconography on transparent tarpaulins. They feature post-war American icons and the consumer objects that invaded mass culture: Elvis, Marilyn, cars, jukeboxes, cigarettes, chewing gum and guitars. These images are swallowed up by the artist's obsessive alphabet: mutants, atomic explosions, the end of the world, religion, violence and sex. Like a double reading between the two hidden sides of the same universe: that of a falsely joyful capitalism, with its belief in purchasing power, and its imprint on bodies and intimacy, creating uncontrollable monsters. Freaksville Sex Wagon is the ultimate postmodern vehicle, a high-tech weapon of war with a retro-futuristic look, a veritable weapon of death and sex.
