“My photography is articulated through my life experiences. It reveals the environment in which I travel, explore, experiment and meet others… A whole that I like to interweave to build a “landscape”. In the world of Cécile Michel (alias Ccil Michel), filled with the interstices of everyday life, elements interweave and engage in dialogue… Although her approach is documentary, it expresses both a relationship with the world and a singular experience. Her first works were produced in specific contexts such as a community of homeless people, where outcasts, drug addicts and prostitutes rub shoulders… The result is a series of portraits that question the place of the individual in a society organized according to a dominant economic power. His approach then evolves through the staging, the situating of people close to him in various public spaces. It is through the stories “we tell ourselves” that she then questions the situation of the human in our society and its possibilities to define itself. Since then, she has continued her research, also in video and sound, assuming a position that confuses the intimate and the public, the real and the fictional. Ccil Michel was a very active member of the former BlowUp collective. (CM)
