Coming from a graffiti background, the trio of artists Pica Pica have retained from their years of exploration en Interrail a certain taste for collective outdoor adventure and wandering. Their imaginary world is inspired by the 1980s initiation films featuring groups of children (Stand by Me, the Goonies…) and the figure of the hobo (homeless traveling clandestinely by train and surviving on seasonal work), recognizable in the drawing and cups made of recycled material in the Fantasia #1 installation. Commissioned by SPACE, this showcase is their first installation of this kind. With its presentation, halfway between museum tradition and night-shop aesthetics, it brings to a close a first period of activity characterized by the coexistence of images (photographs and drawings) and misappropriated everyday objects. Begun at the Académie des Beaux- Arts de Liège, the series of personalized sticks materializes bonds of friendship in the form of dedications. After a decade of working as a team, the three-dimensional works of Atelier Pica Pica are evolving towards more abstract forms, while retaining the spirit of experimentation and joyful bricole that is their hallmark.
