Closer to the autobiographical photography of Nan Goldin than to the conceptual objectivity of a Thomas Ruff, Clémentine belongs to the Internet, Facebook and Instagram generation; a generation that was born and raised bombarded with images, and has learned to sort and disseminate them on different media, in different contexts. This view of the world and the intimate is shared by most of the artists in the Big Girls Don’t Cry collective, a multi-disciplinary group to which photographer Lara Gasparotto, also featured in the SPACE collection, belongs.
For the time being, Clémentine’s work revolves around three main themes: friends, landscapes and textures, which she captures in both color and black & white, silver and digital. The first subject is the world of those closest to her, the diary of a group of friends who are wild and tender, sometimes provocative, with an infectious energy. Landscapes, the second focus of her work, capture magical moments and mysterious places. Finally, in her still lifes and “textures”, isolated elements of urban or natural landscapes, she focuses on detail, abstract forms and color. GM and JH
