Bénédicte Henderick is a visual artist and restorer of old paintings; she creates installations, drawings and objects halfway between design and sculpture. According to Claude Lorent, “The distinctive feature of Bénédicte Henderick’s artistic path is that it stands apart from conventional artistic references, in a rare niche where the density of the intimate takes precedence (…). This work in its entirety is a living being that calls for the sharing of what it progressively delivers in twitches both decided and hesitant: the sculptures on the one hand, the drawings on the other, desires and sufferings, memories and projections that inhabit it”.
The drawing at SPACE belongs to the third and final part of the Laetitia B. : Autopsie series (2005-2009), entitled Offside but Alive (Autopsy, final shot). In it, the artist traces and retraces a personal and mysterious physical and psychic journey, through structures suggested by fragments of habitat or pieces of furniture marked by childhood memories. An intense
reflection on the meaning of life, its fragility, love and death.
